Clayton County Surgeon Uses New Clot-Busting Treatment

A Clayton County surgeon was featured on Fox News for using a revolutionary device that treats blood clots in less than an hour.

Traditionally, doctors prescribed patients with blood thinners that they would have to take for their whole lives. But Dr. Alan Levy, a vascular surgeon at Southern Regional Medical Center in Riverdale, trying a relatively new approach clot-busting treatment called trellis procedure.

In the procedure, one balloon is placed on top of the clot, and another is placed below the clot. A clot-busting medication is delivered to the segment in between those two balloons. The device works to isolate the clot, breaks it up and sucks it out all in less than one hour.

Clayton County is proud to have such admirable members as a part of its community. Dr. Levy is an excellent example of the service that our doctors are providing to Clayton County residents.
